Anheuser-Busch, the company behind brands like Bud Light, learned a valuable lesson in the wake of their failed attempt at a ‘woke’ takeover.
The issue was that, back in December of 2020, Anheuser-Busch tried to use popular transgender social media influencer, Dylan Mulvaney, to promote their flagship product, Bud Light. This was a move that was met with disapproval by many, as many saw it as a forced intrusion of radical leftism that went against a majority of American values.
The proverbial powder keg was lit when Mulvaney threatened women who professed their distrust of his agenda. This started a boycott of Bud Light, and unfortunately for Anheuser-Busch, it was not enough to be extinguished by the company’s pandering ads.
In order to save itself from total destruction, Anheuser-Busch is now forced to sell off a few of its craft beer brands in order to stay afloat. These brands include Shock Top, Breckenridge Brewery, Blue Point Brewing Company, 10 Barrel Brewing Company, Redhook Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewing, Square Mile Cider Company, and Hiball Energy.
It was supposed to be a Canadian company called Tilray Brands that would purchase all of these brands. Tilray announced their purchases in a small video posted on their X channel. And ironically, they are a cannabis company that was already looking to branch out and become a player in the American beer market.
The biggest lesson to be learned in all this is that attempting a takeover of a culture you do not understand is a recipe for disaster. Anheuser-Busch was not able to comprehend or pander to the people’s values, and so they were punished.
What A-B and its few remaining supporters failed to realize is that while this is about more than just transgenderism, it is still a reaction to resisting a cultural takeover that is growing more and more commonplace in America and hurting its people. Transgenderism was simply the most powerful symptom of it.
Anheuser-Busch is now forced to sell off portions of its craft beer portfolio in order to stay afloat. However, it doesn’t have to come to that for the rest of us. To resist a similar consequence, it is important to acknowledge the values of the people you are doing business with. When that does not happen, it is the people who will suffer the most.
