President Biden faces heat from conservatives on social media after his claims that former President Trump and Republicans are to blame for the chaos at the southern border. In a recent address, Biden urged lawmakers to pass the Emergency National Security Supplemental Act, but his critics were quick to call out his alleged lies and “gaslighting” of the American people. These accusations come as GOP lawmakers in the Senate reject the bill, with House Speaker Mike Johnson stating that it is “dead on arrival.”
During the negotiations for the border bill, former President Trump weighed in through his platform, Truth Social, urging senators to reject the deal unless they “get EVERYTHING needed to shut down the INVASION of Millions & Millions of people.” This comment only further fueled the fire for conservatives who accuse the Biden administration of overseeing record numbers of border crossings.
The only reason the border isn’t secure is because the first day you were in office you reversed every Trump policy that was working.
Give me a break.
There is a reason it has been called the #BidenBorderCrisis! https://t.co/x14h2RVCT8

Biden’s statement during his address that “the only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends” only added fuel to the fire. However, many conservatives on social media did not accept this claim. The account “End Wokeness” shared the border crossing numbers from Biden’s term along with a video clip of his quote, attempting to debunk the statement. The numbers showed that in 2021 alone, there were 1,735,000 illegal border encounters, a significant increase from 2020’s 400,000.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, also chimed in, calling out Biden for “gaslighting” the American people. Talk radio host Jay Weber joined in, accusing the president of being dishonest in every part of his news conference. He added that the Democratic party is “all about gaslighting and lying to the American people.” Influencers “Chicks On The Right” even took a jab at Biden, rewriting his quote to say, “Every day between now and November, the American people are going to know that Biden is gaslighting them because they remember how much more secure the border was under Trump.”
Every part of Biden’s n/c today was dishonest. Every line.
The Democrat party is simply all about gaslighting and lying to the American people now. https://t.co/vEnXPkO3sn— Jay Weber (@JayWeber3) February 6, 2024
Senator Eric Schmitt did not hold back in his criticism, stating, “The only reason the border isn’t secure is because the first day you were in office you reversed every Trump policy that was working.” The official House Judiciary GOP account also took a swipe at Biden, stating, “He’s lost it.” It seems that the conservative community is united in their belief that Biden is deflecting blame onto Trump and Republicans for a crisis that they believe his administration has failed to handle.
Conservative commentator Carmine Sabia pointed out that “Americans are not naive,” and they are not buying Biden’s claims. Sabia stated, “They are not going to believe the border you ignored for 3 years is no[t] suddenly Trump’s fault.” The sentiment is echoed by many who believe that it is time for Biden to take responsibility for the current state of the border and work towards finding a solution instead of shifting the blame.

As the debate over the border bill continues and with elections coming up in November, it is clear that the issue of border security will remain a hot topic. With record numbers of illegal border crossings and migrants living in inhumane conditions, it is clear that something needs to be done to address the situation. Both sides of the political spectrum will continue to clash on this issue, and it remains to be seen how it will impact the future of the country. Until then, the blame game continues, with conservatives calling out Biden for what they believe is his administration’s failure to secure the border.
