The media meltdowns over Donald Trump’s presidency have been nothing short of spectacular, and CNN’s Anderson Cooper just gave us yet another perfect example of how unhinged things have become. During a heated exchange with former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, Cooper—who still clings to the illusion of being a serious journalist—let his composure slip and called Sununu a “d***” on live television.
Yes, really.
The moment came as the two were discussing Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the agency Trump tasked Musk with leading to clean up federal waste. The lead-up to the insult was just as entertaining, with Cooper growing visibly redder by the second while legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin sat awkwardly in the background, clearly regretting showing up that day.
Cooper called Sununu a dick debating DOGE.

CNN, of course, conveniently omitted the name-calling when they posted the clip on their website. Instead, they ran with the headline: “Anderson Cooper pushes back on Musk’s claim DOGE is transparent with Americans.” Ah, yes—let’s talk about transparency while pretending your anchor didn’t just resort to schoolyard insults on live TV.
Anderson Cooper melts down, calls Chris Sununu an obscenity live on-air.

The argument started with Sununu pointing out that Musk’s agency had already uncovered massive government waste, something that has sent politicians like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer into full-blown panic mode. Schumer, still reeling from the Democrats’ loss in November, was recently seen at a rally bizarrely chanting “We will win! We will win!” as if sheer repetition could change reality.
Cooper, to his credit, at least acknowledged Musk’s claim that federal spending had gotten out of control. But he quickly tried to undermine it:
COOPER: He’s giving very specific things, but he’s not actually giving any evidence of that.
SUNUNU: It’s all going to come because what they also said was, if we have to go to Congress, we’ll go to Congress. We’ll show where it is.
COOPER: But some of the details that have come out, like the $59 million spent on luxury hotels—it’s actually not–
SUNUNU: You’re talking about the FEMA money that was abused for migrants. That was FEMA money for migrants. That’s okay now?
COOPER: No, I’m not saying it’s okay. Don’t put words in my mouth.
SUNUNU: So, would you stop that? Would you stop that process?
COOPER: Don’t be a d***.
Very professional, Anderson.
No, it’s not the worst thing ever said on live TV, and no, it’s not exactly shocking—but it’s yet another example of the steady decline of cable news. CNN, once the self-proclaimed Most Trusted Name in News, has spent years spiraling into irrelevance. Their ratings are in freefall, their hosts are constantly making headlines for the wrong reasons, and their attempts at damage control—like conveniently omitting details from their own coverage—just make them look even more desperate.
