Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) expressed to Fox News that he still had not heard back from Old Uncle Joe concerning whether the federal government will assist in reimbursement for the damage that has been suffered by the state as a result of Hurricane Ian.
DeSantis explained to Tucker Carlson, a host for Fox News, that he thinks that the storm will end up being recorded as one of the worst flood events in the history of Florida, and quite a few assessments still needed to be carried out in order to determine the full extent of the damage inflicted by the winds.
“When a natural disaster like this strikes a state it is common, I think it’s always the case that the state receives federal aid,” stated Carlson. “Given how politicized things are at the moment, are you confident you are going to get the federal support Florida needs?”
DeSantis answered by highlighting that he had still not yet heard anything from the Biden administration.
“So, I actually spoke with the president and he said he wants to be helpful so we did submit a request for reimbursement for the next 60 days at 100%. That’s significant support, but it’s a significant storm,” explained DeSantis. “So, we haven’t heard back from him but I’m actually cautiously optimistic that we do.”
DeSantis even spokes out for everyone to “put politics aside” due to the fact that quite a few people are fighting for their lives and there are an insane number of people who are still at risk of losing everything they own due to the hurricane.

Hurricane Ian crashed into the more southwestern area of the state at a Category 4 level this past Wednesday evening, taking down power for well over 1 million Floridians. With the winds being recorded at over 155 MPH when the storm made landfall, Hurricane Ian is currently tied for the 4th strongest storm to ever slam into the state.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was questioned as part of a press briefing held on Wednesday about if there were “any requests from the governor for additional federal assistance or disaster declarations?”
The Secretary dodged around the questions that were being asked and instead simply stated that the administration want everyone to know that “Florida will have the full force of the federal government.
She went on to claim that “there’s no politics in this,” despite the obvious fact that Biden did not attempt to reach out to DeSantis until forced to due to extreme backlash throughout the media after it was unveiled that he had dodged DeSantis while calling several Florida mayors.
“This is about the people of Florida,” she exclaimed. “This is about two people who — who wanted to have a conversation on how — how we can be partners to the governor and — and his constituents, and make sure that we are delivering for the people of Florida.”
