The Trump administration is demanding answers after a senior U.S. official was physically attacked inside United Nations Headquarters — an incident the White House is calling part of a “disturbing and dangerous” pattern following President Trump’s claims of “triple sabotage” during his high-stakes visit to the UN earlier this week.
According to the White House, an official serving in a support role for Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was trailed into a bathroom, recorded, physically assaulted, and verbally accosted by what they described as a “deranged leftist” who somehow slipped past multiple layers of UN security.
“Thankfully, the official is safe, and the lunatic was arrested,” Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly told Fox News, which first reported the story. “But this is part of a disturbing and dangerous set of failures by the UN after their sabotage of President Trump ahead of and during his speech.”
The attacker has been charged with assault, aggravated harassment, attempted assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. However, the suspect has already been released from custody pending a November 13 court date — a move that will almost certainly inflame tensions between Washington and the UN over security protocols.
Here’s when the UN escalator stopped working the second Trump & Melania got to it

The U.S. Secret Service is also investigating “how this violent protester was admitted into a major national security event,” Kelly added.
The UN issued its own statement condemning the assault. “We are outraged that a member of the U.S. delegation was physically assaulted inside of UN Headquarters the afternoon of September 25,” a U.S. UN spokesperson said. “This attack must be addressed swiftly, and consequences must be felt.”
The incident comes on the heels of Trump’s accusations that the UN orchestrated “triple sabotage” during his visit. In a post on Truth Social, Trump described how an escalator he and First Lady Melania Trump had just stepped onto “immediately stopped working,” nearly causing them to fall forward onto sharp steel steps.
“It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly, or it would have been a disaster,” Trump wrote. He also noted that the teleprompter malfunctioned for 15 minutes of his speech and that his audio in the auditorium stayed off throughout. When he asked Melania how he had done, she reportedly told him, “I couldn’t hear a word you said.”
“This wasn’t a coincidence,” Trump concluded. “This was triple sabotage at the UN.”
Trump has called for an immediate investigation into both the “sabotage” and Thursday’s assault, demanding that all security tapes be preserved. The episode adds another layer of drama to what was already a tense visit, highlighting how the president’s combative style and security concerns are colliding on the world stage.
