House Committee Gives Update On Upcoming Hearing

The possibility of Hunter Biden’s long-awaited deposition is finally becoming a reality as the House Rules Committee considers a contempt resolution.

While the winter weather storm has delayed the process, the attorneys for both Hunter and the House Oversight Committee and House Judiciary Committee continue to work towards scheduling a closed-door testimony for the first son, who was subpoenaed for the December 13 deposition. This development has been described as a “major turn of events” by Fox News’ Chad Pergram, who also revealed a plan to have the House vote on Thursday to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress.

According to a House Oversight Committee spokesperson, negotiations between the parties have been ongoing, and both sides are working towards scheduling Hunter’s appearance. The delay in the contempt resolution vote is to give the attorneys more time to reach an agreement, as well as the recent disruption of member travel and cancellation of votes due to the winter storm. This news comes on the heels of last Wednesday’s markups by the two committees, where they sought to hold Hunter in contempt for failing to show up for his December 13 deposition. Hunter had briefly appeared at the House Oversight Committee hearing on January 10 but left before being called out by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

Despite this progress toward the deposition, House Republicans are not backing down. According to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Republicans should reissue the subpoena and delay the contempt vote for a week to give Hunter a chance to show up for the deposition. Cruz also warned against playing into the Democrats’ hands by focusing on the legitimacy of the subpoenas and urged House Republicans to focus on the case against the President of the United States. The January 14 letter from Reps. James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) to Hunter’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, dismissed claims that the subpoenas were not valid, stating that they were unconvinced by Lowell’s arguments.

During a recent episode of “The Verdict,” Sen. Cruz stressed the importance of keeping focused on the real issue at hand – the evidence of corruption by the President. He asserted that the reason Hunter Biden’s deposition is a matter of public concern is not simply because of his personal troubles or criminal actions, but because of the undeniable evidence of him profiting from selling favors from his father, who was the vice president and is now the president. According to Cruz, the evidence is mounting that the Biden family has turned corruption into a family business, with millions of dollars flowing through Hunter’s shell corporations and even allegations of money laundering.

Throughout the interview, Sen. Cruz emphasized the importance of keeping Hunter’s deposition on track and not losing sight of the bigger picture – the evidence of official corruption by the President of the United States. He even went as far as to modify his stance on the phrase “Biden crime family,” stating that if the evidence points to corruption, then that is what it should be called.

Cruz also acknowledged that while Hunter is a co-conspirator and a criminal, he is also a witness to the corruption of the officeholder. Consequently, he urged House Republicans to issue the subpoena and give Hunter a chance to comply.

The constant back-and-forth between the House committees and Hunter’s legal team has caused delays in the deposition, but it appears that the deposition is one step closer to happening. With negotiations still ongoing, it remains to be seen if Hunter will finally appear for his closed-door testimony. However, as Sen. Cruz noted, the focus should not be on Hunter himself, but rather the evidence of corruption by the President of the United States.

This new development serves as a reminder that the investigation into the Biden family is still ongoing and that the issue of corruption cannot be swept under the rug.
