And here we go again — Democrats performing outrage for the cameras while ICE officers try to do their jobs.
On Monday, Maryland’s Democratic delegation — including Sens. Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks, plus Reps. Sarah Elfreth, Kweisi Mfume, and Glenn Ivey — decided to stage a full-blown sit-in at a Baltimore ICE facility. Why? Because they weren’t allowed to tour the building, which ICE officials say is a short-term holding area for migrants, not a long-term detention center.
These Maryland lawmakers didn’t lift a finger to stop illegal immigrants and MS-13 gangs from pouring into our state but now they’re staging “sit-in” stunts for cameras to keep illegals in Maryland.
Spare us the show. We stand with ICE and their mission to keep Maryland safe. https://t.co/xWyFzJhHau

That’s right. Rather than go through the actual process for scheduling a tour (which DHS says requires at least a week’s notice for security reasons), the Democrats banged on the doors of the facility and planted themselves on the pavement. “Finally, a director came out and explained to us that she had been given direction not to allow anyone… into the facility,” Mfume complained at a press conference, as if it were some great conspiracy.
But here’s where it gets really wild: Rep. Sarah Elfreth, in a video posted to X, actually referred to the migrants being processed there — many of whom entered the country illegally — as her “constituents.” Not to be outdone, Rep. Glenn Ivey previously used the same term to describe Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a reputed MS-13 gang member and suspected human trafficker who was once held at that very facility. Yes, Democrats are now claiming gang members and illegal immigrants as their “constituents.”
Republican Rep. Andy Harris, the lone conservative in Maryland’s delegation, didn’t mince words: “These Maryland lawmakers didn’t lift a finger to stop illegal immigrants and MS-13 gangs from pouring into our state but now they’re staging ‘sit-in’ stunts for cameras to keep illegals in Maryland. Spare us the show. We stand with ICE and their mission to keep Maryland safe.”
My Maryland delegation colleagues and I were just denied access to an ICE facility in Baltimore — despite our clear legal right to conduct oversight. While our constituents are being snatched off the streets, we’re going to keep fighting for due process, transparency,… pic.twitter.com/4S43HauTzP

DHS officials also blasted the delegation’s antics. Tricia McLaughlin, the department’s assistant secretary for public affairs, said ICE has seen a surge in “assaults, disruptions and obstructions” — some from politicians — and explained that all visits to facilities require proper approval to avoid interfering with the President’s constitutional authority over executive functions.
And here’s the kicker: a Wall Street Journal poll released last week found voters trust Republicans over Democrats on immigration by a whopping 24-point margin. So these publicity stunts? They’re not just tone-deaf — they’re politically suicidal.
