European officials have had a rough time lately, mainly because they can’t seem to handle the hard truths coming from the Trump administration. Instead of acknowledging reality, they’ve been flailing—lecturing, posturing, and, in the case of Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, even trying to dangle the Nobel Peace Prize over Trump’s head as some kind of leverage.
Let’s start with JD Vance. The Vice President has been on a tear, making it clear that free speech is a non-negotiable American value—something that leftists like Mehdi Hasan can’t seem to grasp. Vance had to walk Hasan through the very concept, as European governments continue cracking down on speech in ways that should make every defender of democracy uncomfortable. The irony? These same governments expect unwavering U.S. support—militarily, financially, and diplomatically—but somehow think they can dictate what America’s stance should be on fundamental freedoms.

Then there’s Sikorski’s comments at the Munich Security Conference. He issued a warning to President Trump about negotiating a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, insisting it must be “fair”—by his standards, of course. And then came the veiled threat: if Trump doesn’t toe the line, it could affect the U.S.’s standing on other issues.
Oh, you mean like when Barack Obama did nothing after Russia took Crimea? Was America’s “standing” affected then? Or was it just understood that Obama’s weakness signaled open season for Russian aggression? Joe Biden, for his part, has turned Ukraine into a bottomless money pit, dumping billions into a war with no clear strategy, no defined endgame, and no real accountability. The American people are done with it, and Trump—unlike Biden and Obama—has no interest in dragging the country through another endless conflict.

But Sikorski’s most laughable point? That the Europeans control the Nobel Peace Prize, and if Trump wants to “earn it,” his peace deal must meet their standards. “I would tell him that we Europeans control the Nobel Peace Prize,” Sikorski said. “If you want to earn it, the peace has to be fair.”
Let’s be real: the Nobel Peace Prize lost all credibility when they handed it to Obama—for doing nothing. The prize had already become a political prop, but that moment sealed the deal. And if there was ever any remaining doubt, Sikorski just confirmed it. The prize isn’t about actual accomplishments—it’s about whether you fit into the right ideological mold.
Remember when the Nobel Committee awarded Obama the Peace Prize and then he gave Crimea to Russia?

Trump should have won it in his first term for brokering the Abraham Accords—real, historic peace deals in the Middle East that Obama and his predecessors never achieved. Instead, they ignored him. And let’s be honest, even if Trump were to negotiate the greatest peace deal Ukraine could hope for, they still wouldn’t give it to him.
