Social Media Post About Food Prices Goes Viral

Oh, this one is a chef’s kiss of political self-owns. The official Democratic Party X account tried to dunk on Donald Trump Thursday night — and instead managed to torch their own record on inflation.

Here’s what happened: Democrats posted a chart showing prices for meat, produce, cheese, dairy, and alcohol hitting record highs in 2025. They slapped the caption “Trump’s America” on it, hoping to stick the grocery price hikes on the 45th — and now 47th — president. There’s just one teeny-tiny problem: the giant spike in prices? It happened while Joe Biden was in office.

And everyone noticed.

“Democrats deleted this tweet after everyone with eyes pointed out it showed grocery prices skyrocketed under Biden,” Washington Free Beacon editor Peter Hasson wrote on X. Outkick’s Ian Miller piled on: “I don’t know if there’s anything more Democratic Party than posting a chart of grocery prices exploding during the Biden administration in an attempt to blame Donald Trump.”

And Wall Street Journal critic Kyle Smith summed it up perfectly: “This is the breathtakingly moronic tweet… which shows almost no inflation under Trump, massive inflation under Biden, then almost no inflation under Trump 2.”

They weren’t wrong. Under Biden, inflation hit a 40-year high of 9.1% in June 2022. Food costs alone surged 22% during his single term, according to The New York Post. Compare that to Trump’s first six months back in office, when the average cost of food in U.S. cities has ticked up just about 1%, per federal data.

Nearly every monthly Consumer Price Index report during Trump’s second term has outperformed economists’ predictions — though the most recent report did note slight increases in food, shelter, and energy.

Even the White House’s own “Rapid Response” X account couldn’t help but indirectly highlight how bad this looked for Democrats, pointing out the obvious: the chart they used showcased Biden’s inflation disaster far more than anything Trump has done.

It was so bad, the post didn’t last long. Democrats quietly yanked it down after the ratioing got out of control. But screenshots live forever, and the narrative damage is done: the party that presided over the worst inflation in four decades just accidentally reminded everyone of it — while trying to blame the guy who inherited the mess.
