If the last few months have taught us anything, it’s that the modern Democratic Party appears utterly determined to plunge headlong into political self-immolation. On issue after issue, they seem fixated on defending the indefensible — not just in the name of political correctness, but with a reckless disregard for optics, public safety, and common sense.
Nowhere is that more clear than in their latest public relations disaster involving Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an alleged MS-13 gang member and accused domestic abuser whom the Trump administration deported earlier this year.
In what has become a cringe-inducing saga, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) recently traveled to El Salvador to advocate for Abrego Garcia’s return, calling the illegal immigrant a “constituent.” The cherry on top? The senator was photographed sitting near a couple of margaritas — with Abrego Garcia — a photo that ignited international backlash and drew fire from both sides of the aisle.

The Democrats’ obsession didn’t stop there. Four House Democrats — Reps. Robert Garcia (CA), Maxwell Frost (FL), Yassamin Ansari (AZ), and Maxine Dexter (OR) — made their own pilgrimage to El Salvador to demand Abrego Garcia’s release. Not only were they promptly rebuffed by President Nayib Bukele’s government, but their trip made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
To make matters worse, Van Hollen once campaigned on removing MS-13 members from U.S. communities — a stance that apparently took a backseat to this bizarre display of ideological loyalty. That hypocrisy hasn’t gone unnoticed, especially given how MS-13 continues to plague Democrat-led states like Maryland and California.
But what really put the Democrats on the defensive — or should have — was the powerful rebuke from Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother of five who was brutally raped and murdered in 2023 by Victor Martinez-Hernandez, another illegal immigrant from El Salvador who crossed the border under the Biden administration.

“Van Hollen did not call our family. He did not give condolences,” Morin said. “There was no action on the Democratic Party… None of the senators did anything to help search for the murderer of my daughter.”
Instead, they’re pouring their energy into defending a deported suspect accused of gang affiliations and domestic abuse. The contrast couldn’t be starker — and it couldn’t be more politically poisonous.
House Republicans have taken to referring to these antics as the “Traveling Clown Show”, a name that unfortunately feels well-earned. From storming federal offices, to justifying eco-terrorism against Tesla, to advocating for violent criminals, this kind of tone-deaf political theater is rapidly becoming the norm on the Left.
