President Donald Trump delivered a direct and unequivocal response on Friday to a question that has become a flashpoint in America’s cultural and political divide: “What is a woman?” Speaking from the Oval Office during an impromptu press conference, Trump offered a definition grounded in biological reality and reinforced by policy action.
“A woman is somebody that can have a baby, under certain circumstances,” he said. “A woman is a person who is much smarter than a man, I’ve always found.”
His remarks, delivered with a mix of seriousness and humor, drew laughter in the room but underlined a broader message: the distinction between men and women is not arbitrary, and recognizing that difference is essential to protecting women’s rights.
Trump continued, calling the push to allow biological males in women’s sports “ridiculous” and “very unfair to women.” He labeled the policy trend as “demeaning” and signaled his administration’s stance as a firm break from the previous White House’s support for gender ideology policies.
The remarks echoed themes from conservative commentator Matt Walsh’s 2022 documentary What Is a Woman?, which challenged the redefinition of gender and questioned policies that allow trans-identifying males to access women’s spaces and sports.
Trump seized that issue during the 2024 campaign cycle and made it a central point in his platform. The strategy resonated with a wide swath of voters and contributed to his return to the presidency.
Earlier this week, during a Women’s History Month event at the White House, Trump reiterated his position, pointing to a newly signed executive order affirming the legal recognition of only two genders. “For four long years, we had an administration that tried to abolish the very concept of womanhood and replace it with radical gender ideology,” he said. “Under the Trump administration, we’re ending the Marxist war on women.”
The executive order not only prohibits trans-identifying males from competing in women’s sports at the federal level but also bans the use of puberty blockers and sex-change procedures on minors.
Trump made clear: “No matter how many surgeries you have, or chemicals you inject, if you are born with male DNA in every cell of your body, you can never become a woman.”
