Former President Donald Trump is demanding an investigation into CBS News’ “60 Minutes” after the news program was accused of deceptively editing an answer from Vice President Kamala Harris during an interview on U.S.-Israel relations. Trump took to Truth Social to blast the show’s producers, accusing them of intentionally manipulating Harris’s answers to make her seem more coherent and polished than she was in reality.
“I’ve never seen this before, but the producers of 60 Minutes sliced and diced (‘cut and pasted’) Lyin’ Kamala’s answers to questions, which were virtually incoherent, over and over again,” Trump wrote. His critique was pointed, alleging that the news program’s actions amounted to an illegal effort to boost Harris’s image in the race. Trump even suggested that such editing could be considered a campaign finance violation if it was intended to provide a form of media support to the vice president.
He didn’t hold back, either, calling this episode a permanent stain on the legacy of “60 Minutes,” a program once known for its journalistic integrity. “This is a stain on the reputation of 60 Minutes that is not recoverable – It will always remain with this once storied brand,” he declared. Trump went further, labeling the incident as the “very definition of FAKE NEWS” and demanding a public apology, as well as an immediate investigation into the program’s conduct.
The controversy erupted after CBS News released two different versions of Harris’s response to a question posed by host Bill Whitaker about U.S. relations with Israel. During the discussion, Whitaker mentioned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s resistance to U.S. diplomatic efforts, prompting Harris to respond. In a promotional clip released by CBS on Sunday, Harris was shown saying: “The work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.”

However, when the full interview aired on Monday night, that particular response from Harris was conspicuously absent. Instead, viewers saw Harris responding to the same prompt with a completely different statement: “We are not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”
The discrepancy between the two versions of Harris’s answer has sparked accusations that CBS edited out her less articulate response to present her in a better light. The omission wasn’t just from the televised segment; it was also missing from the interview’s transcript, the YouTube version, and the “Overtime” segment that typically features extended content.
This type of editing has raised serious concerns about media bias and the role of major news outlets in shaping political narratives. Trump’s claims that this kind of manipulation could be considered a campaign finance violation stem from the idea that editing an interview to benefit a candidate could be interpreted as providing unreported support to a political campaign, essentially acting as a form of in-kind contribution.
Trump’s reaction is likely to resonate with those who have long been skeptical of mainstream media’s coverage of conservative figures versus its handling of Democratic candidates. His call for a formal investigation highlights a growing distrust in the media’s ability to report objectively, especially when it comes to high-stakes political issues like U.S.-Israel relations and the ongoing conflicts in the region.

For “60 Minutes,” this incident could be a serious blow to its credibility, especially as accusations of bias and selective editing continue to haunt mainstream media organizations. If proven true, the allegations of manipulating Harris’s responses to downplay her incoherence would only feed into the narrative that major news outlets are not impartial observers but active participants in shaping the political landscape to favor one side over the other.
The lack of transparency in how the interview was edited and the apparent attempt to mask Harris’s original statement suggest a calculated move to sanitize her performance. The omission raises questions not just about editorial standards at “60 Minutes” but also about the ethics of how political interviews are conducted and presented to the public.
