Tim Walz’s recent comments on the Gaza-Israel conflict during his WCMU interview have stirred up a storm, especially among those critical of the Biden administration’s approach. Walz, running as Kamala Harris’s running mate, tried to tread carefully in a state with a significant Palestinian-American population, but his remarks left much to be desired.
Walz acknowledged the atrocities of October 7, where Hamas murdered over 1,100 people, including Americans, but his response quickly shifted to focusing on Gaza’s plight. “We can’t allow what’s happened in Gaza to happen,” he said, almost framing Israel’s defensive actions as the real problem. Walz made no mention of Hamas, the group responsible for the bloodshed, or the American hostages. His focus was instead on pressing Israel toward a two-state solution—something Israel has offered and been met with rejection time and again.

To many, Walz’s remarks came off as a mix of naivety and poor judgment. His reference to those “speaking out loudly in Michigan” as “speaking out for all the right reasons” was seen as tone-deaf, considering the recent pro-Hamas chants and anti-American rhetoric that have erupted in protests. His failure to distinguish between those advocating for peace and those openly supporting terrorist actions left a sour taste in the mouths of critics.
The rioters cheering for Hamas are speaking out for all the right reasons?
Terrorists hinding their face and calling for violence against Jews are speaking out for all the right reasons?
No wonder he ran from reporters after Hersh was murdered.

What’s worse is that he implies Israel, rather than the terrorists responsible for the attack, needs “leverage” applied. This not only shows a lack of understanding of the complex history of failed negotiations but also emboldens groups like Hamas, who interpret any softness toward Israel as a green light to continue their atrocities.
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz want “to put the leverage on” Israel to ensure Hamas survives to kill again?
And they believe pro-Hamas radicals “are speaking out for all the right reasons”?

The Harris-Walz campaign appears to be bending over backward to avoid offending certain voters, but in doing so, they risk alienating many more. As Walz tiptoes around the core issue, which is Hamas’s terrorism and Israel’s right to defend itself, he shows why many feel uneasy about trusting him and Harris with U.S. foreign policy. His lack of clarity, combined with his sympathetic tone toward Gaza at Israel’s expense, is a recipe for disaster in a world where strength and decisiveness are needed.
