Comer Reveals Next Step In Inquiry

President Joe Biden has faced accusations of corruption regarding the business dealings of his son, Hunter Biden, since July. On Thursday, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer moved to further investigate the issue as the next step in the House impeachment inquiry against the president.

Comer, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, and House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith briefed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on the progress of their investigation into the alleged corruption.

During the meeting, Comer disclosed the House Republicans’ findings and detailed plans for their next steps. He explained that he intends to pursue personal and business bank records belonging to Hunter Biden and the president’s brother, James. Comer also plans to obtain additional transcribed interviews from Hunter Biden business associates, Eric Schwerin and Rob Walker. It is expected that the House Oversight Committee will hold a public hearing regarding the investigation in the coming weeks.

Since last summer, the committee has spoken with Hunter Biden’s business partner, Devon Archer, who testified that the then-Vice President joined conference calls between Hunter and foreign partners and attended dinners with them in Washington.

Comer also shared information from the third bank records memo: Hunter Biden and his business associates had millions of dollars from several oligarchs in Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan during the Obama administration. Additionally, Comer requested documents from the National Archives related to the Biden family’s potential misuse of Air Force Two and all unredacted documents utilizing Biden’s pseudonym, Robin Ware, and inquiries from the Secretary of State about sudden foreign policy decisions during the Obama administration that prompted the Ukrainian prosecutor to drop their investigation into Burisma Holdings while Hunter Biden was serving on the board of said company.

The White House maintains that President Joe Biden was “never in business with his son.”

As the House continues to pursue this investigation, the documents, testimony, and inquiries are becoming an ever more critical factor in the Biden impeachment inquiry. Comer, Jordan, and Smith have been exposed to various records and accounts as they work to assess the degree of Biden’s involvement. It remains to be seen if their efforts will paint a picture of legitimate corruption or radical Republican political theater.
