Well over three dozen people have been found dead in the wake of a fire igniting inside a migrant detention center located in Mexico, just over the border shared with the Southern U.S.
As explained by area officials, currently 39 people have been found dead and 29 more have been hospitalized in the wake of a fire breaking out inside a migration center located in Ciudad Juarez that was being run by the National Migration Institute (INM). Reportedly, the victims of the fire hailed from a number of countries across both Central and South America.
Those moved to the hospital have been labeled as in “delicate-serious condition,” as reported by the INM. Officials for the INM also appeared to suggest that the fire was not at all an accident, stating that it “strongly rejects the acts that led to this tragedy.”
“With deep sadness and sorrow, we learned about the fire that happened inside the INM of Ciudad Juarez. We will wait for the official information and, from this moment, we convey our condolences to the families of the migrants,” explained the federal deputy of Ciudad Juarez, Andrea Chávez.
Chávez went on to state that the attorney general’s office of Mexico would be sure to carry out an investigation into the fire. As of writing, the cause of which has not yet been discovered. Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission has also elected to step in to aid the survivors of the incident, which took place just across the border from El Paso, Texas.
Most that are seeking to get into the United States at some point pass through Ciudad Juarez, which can be found in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

As reported by Alfredo Corchado, a correspondent with the Dallas Morning News, most of those who had been staying within the facility were known to be from Venezuela and had just recently been brought in from the streets. Corchado went on to add that a “mass number” of migrants had made their way to the border because they thought that Title 42 would finally be stopped. Title 42 is known to be a Trump-era health order which has let agents of the U.S. border patrol send away migrants along the border on grounds of publish health.
In the wake of his taking office, Biden has been responsible for an unprecedented immigration crisis along the border. The level of illegal immigration has climbed to a record-shattering level, and the administration has expressed worry that the numbers could keep climbing in the wake of the expiration of Title 42 on the 11th of May.
