GOP Rep. Speaks Up With More Information About Stint In ICU

Congressman Greg Steube (R-FL) took time to issue an update concerning his health this past Monday in the wake of a dangerous fall from a ladder while just outside of his personal residence in Sarasota, Florida, that ended up putting the congressman inside of an area Intensive Care Unit.

Steube ended up being knocked off the ladder late last Wednesday and dropped over 25 feet to the ground. The congressman was quickly sent to an area hospital after a bystander witnessed the fall and call in emergency services, bringing to the scene groups of first responders.

After a period of four days at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Steube tweeted out a picture of himself once he made it back home, still wearing a stabilizing brace placed on his neck, while on the couch with his dogs, and he spoke about how his ongoing recovery was coming along.

“I am blessed to have a great support team in my wife Jennifer as well as numerous friends and family, including the Steube pups,” he explained via a tweet last Monday evening. “Grateful for everyone’s prayers and well-wishes as I recover from a fractured pelvis, a punctured lung, and several torn ligaments in my neck.”

Steube went on to state that his recovery was msot liekly going to force him to stay out of Washington, D.C. for a period of time, but that he planned to keep as connected as possible and stay involved with affairs throughout his convalescence.

“While I will be sidelined in Sarasota for several weeks, I will be carrying out as many of my congressional duties as possible,” he went on. “And our D.C. and district staff continue to be readily available to assist Floridians in FL-17.”

“I’m eager to rejoin my colleagues in Washington as soon as possible!” he finished.

despite the absence of Steube, a report from Fox News from Monday expressed that newly-elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy had reached out to stay in touch with Steube in order to tell him about his assigned committee assignment with the Florida legislator being set to serve as a member of the new Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.

Because Steube will most likely be able to take part in some portion of his duties while still at home, the newly set rules set in place recently by the Republican-controlled House have issued a hard stop on all proxy voting and any virtual hearings — meaning that the congressman will not be able to issue any votes or fully take part in any hearings until his period of recovery ended and allowed him to make it back to Capitol Hill.
