Group Calling For The Jobs Of Head L.A. City Officials Gets Reinforcement From The Biden Administration

Just two days in the wake of audio recordings leaking which exposed a group of three Los Angeles City Council members and one head L.A. county labor official for making use of offensive and racist language as part of a meeting held last year, Old Uncle Joe has chosen to join the mob seeking the official resignations of the group of officials.

The comments from Biden, which have been repeated by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre via a Tuesday press conference, take place in the wake of Democrat Nury Martinez resigning as the president of the Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera resigning earlier this week.

Jean-Pierre explained to reporters that Biden thinks that all politicians — even the leadership of the Democrat party — should be made to stand accountable for their racist language and insulting statements.

“The President is glad to see that one of the participants in that conversation has resigned,” stated Jean-Pierre. “He believes that they all should resign. The language that was used during that conversation was unacceptable, and it was appalling.”

The conversation held between Martinez and Herrera, which The Los Angeles Times reports happened as part of a meeting back in October 2021, centered mostly around the once every ten years redistricting of the city that happened at the union federation’s offices.

The Los Angeles Times reports that this particular redistricting meeting — which was created to discuss just how the city should set back up the council district boundaries over the next ten years — geared toward assisting the Latino political leaders keep their power, protect their economic interest, and re-elect various Latino members.

As reported by the U.S. Census, roughly 48% of all residents were either Latino or Hispanic, with almost 12% being of Asian descent and almost 9% black population.

The California Legislative Black Caucus stated in the recording “reveals an appalling effort to decentralize Black voices during the critical redistricting process,” reported The Associated Press.

During the meeting, Martinez could be heard in the recording making racist comments about Mike Bonin, a fellow council member and a gay white man, along with his adopted black son, stating that their peer “handled his young Black son as though he were an accessory” and labeling the man’s son in Spanish as “like a monkey.”

In the wake of the announcement of her resignation from the role of City Council president, while maintaining her role as a councilmember, Martinez claimed that she was planning to take a “leave of absence” from work with the council, as reported by The Los Angeles Times.

“This has been one of the most difficult times of my life, and I recognize this is entirely of my own making,” explained Martinez in a release, as reported by FOX LA. “At this moment, I need to take a leave of absence and take some time to have an honest and heartfelt conversation with my family, my constituents, and community leaders.”

“I am so sorry to the residents of Council District 6, my colleagues, and the City of Los Angeles,” she stated.

The Los Angeles City Council members identified in the leaked audio are seeing increasing pressure from the Biden administration to resign from their roles.

As reported by USA Today, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, the California Democratic Party, multiple labor unions, and current mayoral candidates are a selection of those calling for the jobs of the identified people.
