Life-Shattering Diagnosis Forces NFL Tight End Out Of League

Earlier this week, Tight end Foster Moreau, who is a free agent,  stated that he is being forced to step away from the league in order to deal with a recent cancer diagnosis.

Historically, the 25-year-old has played for the Las Vegas Raiders, but only just learned of his cancer diagnosis in the wake of moving to another team after choosing to become a free agent.

“Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me,” he explained via a post to social media. “During a routine physical conducted by the Saint’s medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer.”

“I’m grateful for the support and thankful for people who have stood firm with me,” he went on. “There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance. That being said, I’ll go kick this thing’s ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!”

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a type of cancer that starts in white blood cells known as lymphocytes, as explained by the Mayo Clinic. If a Reed-Sternberg cell can be detected then the lymphoma is classified as being Hodgkin’s.

If the Reed-Sternberg cell is not found, the lymphoma is classified as non-Hodgkins.

Additionally, Actor Sam Neill, most well known for portraying Alan Grant in the “Jurassic Park” movie series, revealed this past week that he too has been fighting stage three non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma over the past year.

He stated that the most difficult part of having to do chemotherapy was the loss of his hair. “More than anything I want my beard back,” he expressed. “I don’t like the look of my face one bit.”

“I’m not afraid of dying,” he stated. “What I don’t want to do is to stop living, because I really enjoy living. I’ve regarded it as an adventure, quite a dark adventure, but an adventure nevertheless. And the good days are just fantastic and when you get some good news it’s absolutely exhilarating.”

“The last thing I want is for people to obsess about the cancer thing,” he went on to add, “because I’m not really interested in cancer. I’m not really interested in anything other than living.”

Neill posted an update regarding his condition this past weekend via social media, stating that he has been “in remission for eight months.”

“My news seems to be all over the news at the moment, and it’s sort of ‘Cancer! Cancer! Cancer!’ which is slightly tiresome because as you see, I am alive and well and I have been in remission for eight months, which feels really good,” he concluded. “And I’m alive and kicking and I’m going to work. I’m very happy to be going back to work. We start filming in seven days’ time. I’m doing a thing called ‘Apples Never Fall’ with Annette Bening, and a really wonderful cast.”
