Gretchen Whitmer, the Democratic Governor of Michigan continued to hold a lead over Tudor Dixon, the Republican challenger, across the polls, but a recently released poll unveiled that Dixon has managed to close the previously large gap to well within striking distance.
The poll in question, which was officially put out on Friday by the Trafalgar Group, points out that Whitmer is leading by just six points (51%-45%), which seems to indicate that the race is quite a bit closer than previously thought due to results from other polls such as those carried out by the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press expressed. As reported by a poll from Detroit News from back near the end of August which was carried out through early September, Whitmer held a solid 13-point lead, while the poll from Free Press showed the governor solidly flying ahead by almost 16 points as of this past month.
“Even Gretchen’s millions in attack ads can’t erase her record of broken promises,” expressed Dixon via social media in response to the posting of the poll finding from Trafalgar. “We will defeat the Queen of Lockdowns.”

The Trafalgar poll was unveiled just a day in the wake of a report going out from Bridge Michigan which showed that the state had managed to drop close to 82,000 jobs in while under the guidance of Whitmer as the governor still chooses to go around bragging about her various economic “achievements.” Whitmer has also repeatedly lauded the idea that she was able to make roughly 25,000 jobs in the auto industry for the state, but to anyone actually looking, these jobs do not seem to exist.
Dixon had solidly placed the blame on Whitmer’s draconian COVID lockdown policies for the overtly sluggish economy that the state has been severely struggling with recently.
“Gretchen Whitmer implemented the most draconian and extreme lockdowns in the country throughout the pandemic,” Dixon stated to the outlet Bridge Michigan.
“She destroyed our small business community … and forced hard working Michiganders to follow her intrusive orders that picked winners and losers. That is her economic legacy,” continued the GOP gubernatorial candidate.
As one of the most trusted companies for surveys in the nation, Trafalgar has often proved its accuracy for the state of Michigan in the past. The company was one of the only polling groups to correctly predict the victory of former President Donald Trump for the state back in 2016.
