Nikki Haley Enters The Race With Recent Announcement Declaring Her Candidacy For The Presidency

Nikki Haley, who has previously served as the governor of South Carolina and one-time U.N. ambassador, stated this past Tuesday that she will be going after the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Haley previously served a total of three terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives prior to being elected as the state’s governor back in 2010, setting a record as the youngest governor in the country at the age of 38. After securing her reelection, she held the office until 2017, when former President Donald Trump reached out to nominate her to take on the role of the United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

“Some look at our past as evidence that America’s founding principles are bad; they say the promise of freedom is just made-up,” stated Haley as part of a recently posted announcement video on social media. “Some think our ideas are not just wrong, but racist and evil. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

She then contrasted the freedom of America with the horrid actions of authoritarian regimes around the globe.

“I have seen evil; in China they commit genocide; in Iran, they murder their own people for challenging the government,” she went on. “And when a woman tells you about watching soldiers throw her baby into a fire, it puts things into perspective. Even on our worst day, we are blessed to live in America.”

Haley was well known in the U.N. for her take-no-prisoners attitude that earned her quite a bit of praise from conservatives. She openly labeled anti-Semitic UNESCO as a “cesspool” and “among the most corrupt and politically biased UN agencies.” She stood as a staunch defender of the U.S. embargo on Cuba when the U.N. spoke out to condemn the U.S., saying, “The United States will continue to stand with the Cuban people until their rights and their freedoms are restored. Period. We won’t back down.”

On a number of occasions, she defended Israel against its critics while standing in strong opposition to the despotic Iranian regime.

Haley is the second major candidate to officially announce a run for the Republican presidential nomination for 2024. Trump kicked off his campaign back in November 2022, while other potential candidates include Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Michael, Haley’s husband, previously served in Afghanistan as an officer for the South Carolina Army National Guard, and the pair have two young kids together.
