Southern Border Crisis Causes Spike in Terror Watch List Arrests

The total number of people sitting on the terror watch list for the United States that have been arrested along the southern border has soared under the Biden administration, as explained in a recent report.

Data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) showed a spike from just three arrests of individuals from people on the list at the border in 2020 to close to 100 in 2022.

In 2023, a total of 38 individuals on the terror watch list have ended up in custody along the southern border so far, pacing ahead of the high from lat year which sat at 98.

back in 2021, during Biden’s first year in office, a total of 15 arrests of individuals found on the terror watch list took place at the southern border. While the total number was over five times higher than the last year under the Trump administration, these statistics have quickly spiked since the start of 2022.

During the four years under the leadership of then-President Donald Trump, just 11 individuals from the terror watch list were taken into custody.

The extreme numbers under the Biden administration do not include a still unknown number of “gotaways,” people who have eluded Border Patrol while making their way into the U.S. The CBP has issued an estimate that close to 1.2 million gotaways have escaped under the Biden administration, despite the exact number not being known.

The report of spiking terror watch list arrests at the southern border adds to record numbers of migrants crossing into the U.S. from December. CBP highlighted 251,487 encounters with migrants this past month, the highest number recorded in the nation’s history.

As of last month’s numbers, combined with the first two months of the fiscal year 2023 — November and October —  put the U.S. on a path to have more than 2.87 million illegal alien encounters on the U.S. southern border this year. The stats from December also marks a growing streak of ten months of 200,000 or more migrant encounters per month on the nation’s southern border.

The border crisis from the Biden administration led Texas Rep. Pat Fallon (R) to put in place articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Fallon brought forth these articles of impeachment against Mayorkas in the House just earlier this month.

“Since day one, Secretary Mayorkas’ policies have undermined law enforcement activities at our southern border,” stated Fallon in a statement to Fox News. “From perjuring himself before Congress about maintaining operational control of the border to the infamous ‘whip-gate’ slander against our border patrol agents, Secretary Mayorkas has proven time and time again that he is unfit to lead the Department of Homeland Security.”

“His willful actions have eroded our immigration system, undermined border patrol morale, and jeopardized American national security. He has violated the law and it is time for him to go,” Fallon concluded.
