Supreme Court Issues Ruling On Key Immigration Policy Title 42

This past Monday, the justices of the Supreme Court officially blocked the removal of key immigration policy Title 42.

The statutes, which issue the power to the commanders-in-chief to close down immigration as an emergency action in order to block communicable diseases from making their way into the nation, was last used by former President Donald Trump in reaction to the outbreak of COVID. Families attempting to seek asylum had slammed a lawsuit that led Judge Emmet Sullivan of the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., to try and force the Biden administration to drop Title 42 as soon as Wednesday.

Officials with Customs and Border Protection warned legislators that roughly 50,000 illegal migrants were prepared to rush across the border into the United States as soon as Title 42 officially ended. An order coming down from Chief Justice John Roberts of the high court placed a stay on the ruling from the lower court.

“Texas and other states are insisting that the Court leave Title 42 in place. Today’s order is a step in that direction,” expressed Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) in the wake of the move. “This helps prevent illegal immigration.”

Leaders throughout various cities along the border have been forced to prepare for a massive influx of immigrants. As the Democratic mayor of El Paso, Texas, Oscar Leeser officially declared a state of emergency as a means to get ready for the ending of Title 42. “Our asylum seekers are not safe,” explained the official on Saturday during a press conference. “We have hundreds and hundreds on the street and that’s not the way we treat our people.”

Just over 80,000 migrants have made their way into El Paso over the course of the past four months; roughly 678,000 people currently live in the city proper, where the average temperature at night can be well below freezing during winter. Leeser did not rule out the option of utilizing a nearby military base for the role of temporary shelter for the migrants, claiming that officials were discussing options with both federal and state figures.

Up to 4.9 million migrants have flooded across the border into the United States under the leadership of Old Uncle Joe, as reported by data from the Federation for American Immigration Reform. Even as many as 66 people known to be on the terror watchlist have illegally crossed the border between October 2021 and July 2022. Over the course of the past five years, only about 30 illegal migrants off of the terror watchlist were stopped at the border.
