Gavin Newsom, the Democrat Governor of California, has reportedly stated that he will run for president in 2024 if President Joe Biden chooses to not run for re-election.
People familiar with the plans from Newsom stated to TheWrap that the governor was “undeniably, unequivocally” planning to run for president if Biden chooses to not run again.
One top fundraiser inside the state who is quite close with the governor stated to the outlet that “after this midterm election is over, he absolutely is going to announce that he is running for the presidency once Biden announces that he is not running.”
“No ifs, ands, or buts,” stated the person. “He will run if Biden does not.”
This tidbit of information comes to light just after Biden outright refused to issue a response during a CBS News interview that went public this past Sunday concerning whether or not he was going to make another big for president in 2024.
Biden issued these comments as part of a recent interview with Scott Pelley, the host of CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” just after quite a few other Democrats have made the claim that Biden will not be even trying to make another bid for the Oval office in 2024.
“Sir, are you committed to running again, or are there certain conditions that have to be right?” questioned Pelley concerning the possible run.
“Look, if I were to say to you, I’m running again, all of a sudden, a whole range of things come into play that I have – requirements I have to change and move and do,” answered Old Uncle Joe, highlighting that current elecion laws are playing a major factor in his current stance. “And it’s much too early to make that kind of decision. I’m a great respecter of fate. And so, what I’m doing is I’m doing my job. I’m gonna do that job. And within the time frame that makes sense after this next election cycle here, going into next year, make a judgment on what to do.”
“You say that it’s much too early to make that decision,” answered Pelley. “I take it the decision has not been made in your own head.”
“Look, my intention as I said to begin with is that I would run again. But it’s just an intention,” answered Old Uncle Joe. “But is it a firm decision that I run again? That remains to be seen.”
