Trump Endorses Netanyahu With Warning On Iran

The message was direct and came without delay. President Trump wrote on Sunday that Israel must re-elect Benjamin Netanyahu. If they do not, he said the United States will have to “finish the job” against Iran on its own. This is not a subtle hint. It is a clear line in the sand drawn nine days before the vote.

Trump took to Truth Social to spell out his support for the Israeli leader. He called Netanyahu a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and a “Partner for Peace.” The President noted that Iran has chanted “Death to Israel, Death to America” for 51 years. He argued that such threats always end up becoming true if left unchecked. According to Fox News, Trump stated that Iran has been “systematically destroyed, both Militarily and Financially” under Netanyahu’s watch.

The President made it clear he does not want to do the work alone. That is a blunt way to put it. The White House wants a partner who can handle the fight. The administration sees Netanyahu as the only one who can do the job effectively. The Washington Examiner reports that Trump credited the Prime Minister with weakening Iran’s military and financial power.

Trump described the pressure Netanyahu faces as immense. He called this the kind of partner the United States demands. The endorsement comes as Israel prepares for its first national vote since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. The election is set for October 27.

Israel’s system works differently than our own. Voters pick party lists, not a single person for prime minister. Seats in the 120-seat Knesset are handed out based on the percentage of votes a party gets. A party must clear a 3.25% threshold to get any seats at all. Current forecasts suggest Netanyahu’s Likud party will win between 18 and 22 seats. His broader right-religious bloc is projected to hold about 49 to 51 seats. That is not a majority.

To form a government, a candidate needs the support of at least 61 members. This means Netanyahu will need smaller parties to join his coalition. The balance of power will rest with those smaller groups. The Israeli president, Isaac Herzog, will consult with party leaders after the vote. He will assign someone to build a government. The New York Post notes that Netanyahu faces a “tough race” despite the strong backing from the US President.

Netanyahu responded quickly to the endorsement. He thanked Trump on X for the “tremendous support and the joint work.” He added, “Together, we will complete the mission.” The two leaders have faced some strains over how to handle the war, but they remain aligned on the goal. Trump has said the US will not attack Iran before the November midterms in the US. The President wants to see a stable government in Israel before moving to the next phase of the conflict.

Trump concluded his post with a simple promise: “BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” He asked that his letter serve as his “Complete and Total Endorsement” of Netanyahu’s race for re-election. The President warned that if Israel chooses anyone else, the US will be left to handle the threat alone. That is the core of the message. The vote is coming up, and the US has stated its price for a partner. The result will decide who finishes the job against Iran.
