Here we go again. Donald Trump hasn’t even taken the oath of office for his second term, and already, Democratic Senator Adam Schiff is laying the groundwork for yet another impeachment circus. Appearing on CNN’s “January 6th: Congress Certifies the Election”, Schiff made it clear that Democrats are gearing up for battle, openly hinting at the possibility of impeachment before Trump even sets foot back in the Oval Office.
“If he violates the law, if he violates the Constitution, if he abuses his office, we will vigorously push back, fight back, stand up to him, as we had to do during his first term in office,” Schiff declared. Translation: We’re ready to impeach Trump the minute he takes a sip of Diet Coke in the Oval Office.
It’s almost comical. After years of hearings, investigations, and two impeachments that ended in acquittal, Schiff still can’t let it go. Trump won the election. Congress certified it. Vice President Kamala Harris herself, in a moment of political grace, oversaw the process and declared Trump the winner. Yet, for Schiff and his allies, the obsession continues.
Let’s not forget who Adam Schiff is. This is the man who, during Trump’s first term, became the self-appointed face of “resistance politics.” He chaired the House Intelligence Committee, led the first impeachment effort, and spent countless hours on TV claiming he had “evidence” of Trump’s wrongdoing—evidence that never quite seemed to materialize. The Senate acquitted Trump, and Mitt Romney was the only Republican to break ranks.
But Schiff doesn’t seem interested in lessons learned. Instead of focusing on the priorities that voters actually care about—like inflation, border security, crime, and energy independence—Schiff is already teeing up another round of partisan warfare.
Meanwhile, the certification process itself was a model of order and calm, a stark contrast to the chaos of January 6, 2021. Vice President Harris presided over the session with professionalism, shaking hands with Speaker Mike Johnson and overseeing the counting of Trump’s 312 electoral votes. Snow blanketed the Capitol steps, but inside, the process moved forward smoothly.
That didn’t stop Democrats like Rep. Lloyd Doggett from taking somber strolls down memory lane, posting on X about January 6th and offering melancholy reflections on democracy. But here’s the inconvenient truth for Schiff and Doggett: Voters have moved on. Only five percent of Americans cited January 6th as their defining memory of Trump’s presidency. The rest are far more concerned with paying their bills, keeping their families safe, and having a functioning economy.
And let’s not forget Trump’s triumphant tone heading into certification: “CONGRESS CERTIFIES OUR GREAT ELECTION VICTORY TODAY — A BIG MOMENT IN HISTORY. MAGA!” Whether you love him or hate him, Trump has a knack for steering the narrative. While Democrats are still brooding over events from four years ago, Trump is marching confidently into his second term with the wind at his back and a Republican Congress in tow.
Even JD Vance, Trump’s Vice President-elect, received a hero’s welcome when Ohio’s electoral votes were announced. Republicans in the chamber erupted in applause, with some even giving a standing ovation. It was a moment of political clarity: the Republican Party is united behind Trump and ready to govern.
But Schiff? He’s still stuck in 2019, rehearsing his impeachment lines and dusting off his old hearing notes. At some point, Democrats will need to realize that the playbook they’ve been using against Trump doesn’t work. The endless investigations, the media hysteria, the selective outrage—it didn’t stop Trump then, and it won’t stop him now.
The peaceful certification of Trump’s victory and the subdued atmosphere on Capitol Hill suggest that most Americans are ready to turn the page. They want their leaders to address the real issues facing the country, not get bogged down in another years-long impeachment saga.
But Adam Schiff can’t help himself. Impeachment has become his political comfort food, his go-to move when the spotlight starts to fade. He’ll keep pushing, keep making ominous speeches on CNN, and keep insisting that this time will be different.
