Arnold Schwarzenegger, the iconic action star and former Governor of California, has recently shared his thoughts on the idea of Heaven and Hell in an interview with Danny Devito for Interview Magazine. The 75–year–old actor said that he believes that both Heaven and Hell are nothing more than fantasies and that once we die that is the end.
When asked by Devito about the topic of Heaven and Hell, Schwarzenegger forcefully voiced his opinion, saying, “Anyone that tells you something else is a f—ing liar.” He went on to explain that we all face mortality and don‘t know what happens to our souls after death, which can be a difficult thing to accept. He pointed out that it‘s easy to get comfortable with the idea of an afterlife, but that he believes it is something that we will never see.
Schwarzenegger also opened up about the heartbreaking moment when he told his then–wife Maria Shriver that he was the father of their housekeeper‘s son. The revelation tore them apart and eventually led to their divorce. He said that it was one of the most difficult conversations of his life.
The actor recently revealed these personal trials and tribulations in a new three–part documentary, Arnold, which begins streaming on Netflix on Wednesday. The series chronicles Schwarzenegger‘s journey from Austria to the United States and features interviews with him, his friends, his foes, and other observers.
Schwarzenegger‘s ideas on Heaven and Hell might be questionable to some, but he stands firmly by them. And though his view of the afterlife might be controversial, his life story is a great example of the power of the pursuit of the American dream.
Regardless of one‘s thoughts on his views on the afterlife, it‘s clear that Schwarzenegger has had a unique and remarkable life and career that deserves to be respected and admired. So even if his ideas about Heaven and Hell are not shared by everyone, it‘s clear that his contribution to the world is undeniable.
