Ted Cruz Speaks Up About The Arrest Of Parade Attacker

Officials for the Houston police department put forth a statement late Monday evening announcing the successful arrest of the 33-year-old man responsible for attacking Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) while he took part in the celebration parade for the World Series win of the Houston Astros.

“HPD made one arrest during today’s victory parade,” explained officials for the Houston Police Department in a release. “A male, 33, threw a beer can at U.S. Senator Ted Cruz as the Senator was on a float in the 2400 block of Smith St. The beer can struck the Senator in the chest/neck area. The Senator did not require medical attention.”

“Nearby HPD officers arrested the male without further incident,” the statement went on to explain. “He was taken to jail and faces assault charges. We will release the suspect’s name and booking photo here when formal charges are filed.”

The beer can which was targeting Cruz did not seem to be opened, which means it would have been quite a bit heavier than an empty can, especially as a loud thud could be heard once it was deflected down into the bed of the military HUmmer in which the Senator was riding. Cruz’s young daughters were with him in the back of the truck as the attack took place.

“As always I’m thankful for the Houston Police and Capitol Police for their quick action,” expressed Cruz in a statement. “I’m also thankful that the clown who threw his White Claw had a noodle for an arm.”

A video of the incident highlighted Cruz standing in the back of the truck reacting as the beer can was hurled at him from the crowd. He, along with one of his staffers, both quickly threw up hands at the same time in an effort to deflect the can away from Cruz and his daughters, but it did end up directly striking the politician. The staffer could then be seen pointing out the offender in the crowd, highlighting him to both parade security officials and law enforcement officers.

Cruz was in attendance at the event in the wake of the Houston Astros taking a victory in the World Series this past weekend, beating out the Philadelphia Phillies with a four-game to two record with the final game sporting a core of 4 to 1.
