Trio Of Indiana State University Students Dead After Fiery Car Crash

A trio of students from Indiana State University perished in a single-car accident, as reported by a press release sent out by the school on Sunday.

The accident involved a total of five people in the car, which included a few of the school’s football players. Two of the students were able to be treated for their injuries. The names of these students have not yet officially been confirmed or released.

“This is a terrible tragedy,” expressed Dr. Deborah J. Curtis, the ISU President. “As we are waiting on additional details from authorities investigating this accident, our hearts go out to the families and friends of the students involved.”

John Plasse, the Sheriff of Vigo County, put out information about the accident as part of a statement put forward on Sunday.

“The vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree. Upon deputies arrival, the vehicle, occupied by a driver and four passengers, was on fire,” he stated. “Two of the occupants were able to be freed from the vehicle and were transported for medical treatment with serious injuries. Unfortunately, the driver and two other occupants were pronounced deceased on the scene.”

The accident took place on Indiana Highway 46 next to Main Street in Riley, which is a small town roughly 10 miles from Terre Haute, the place in which the school is located. The vehicle left the toad and slammed into a large tree before exploding into flames. The accident is currently still under investigation.

An early afternoon women’s soccer game has been moved to a different day in the wake of the tragic news breaking on campus.

Curt Mallory, the head football coach for Indiana State University, put out his own brief statement on Sunday evening.

“Thank you for all the support during this very difficult time,” expressed Mallory.

Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN) Chimed in to share his own thoughts via social media in the wake of the tragic event.

“My heart goes out to the families and friends of the Indiana State University students tragically killed in a car crash early today. I am praying for the entire ISU community,” he explained in the Twitter post.
