WATCH: Suspect Attempts To Use Power Lines As Means To Evade Police

Recently, one male suspect tried to evade police forces by scaling power lines after he allegedly shot a firearm in northwest Washington, D.C. late into the evening of Wednesday.

As stated in recent reports, the man was reportedly dealing with a mental health breakdown and had been standing on the top of a roof entirely naked when he allegedly began to fire the fun and expose himself. He then put his clothing back on before trying to evade police and flee the area.

Jim Lokay, the evening news anchor on FOX5, was able to keep the network’s viewers informed about the most recent developments in the event via a series of social media posts.

“BREAKING: Several streets blocked off in the Brightwood Park section of NW DC around Georgia Ave and Kennedy St as an armed man is standing on a rooftop, and also exposing himself. More to come on #FOX5DC on air and online,” he stated in a tweet.

Police forces tried to take the man into custody at the intersection of Georgia Ave, and Kennedy st., and despite his being able to dodge police custody, officers were able to secure the firearm he used at the scene. Officers stated that while the ordeal was still ongoing, they did not even consider the idea that the man could be an “active threat.”

The D.C. Metro Police officers were forced to shut down several streets as they continued their efforts to continue the investigation.

As stated in a series of follow-up tweets, the suspect tried to carry out an extremely dangerous escape by utilizing the power lines hanging just over the street.

Jackie Benson, a reporter for NBC4, stated, “Happening Now: intersection Georgia and Jefferson NW shut down. Man seen here has disrobed and is trying to swing on power lines. DC police trying to get him to come down.”

“A man continues to evade police in NW DC, traversing power lines in the Brightwood Park neighborhood, more than an hour after firing a gun from a nearby rooftop. #FOX5DC,” continued Lokay.

“Update: three hours later, the man is still hanging above the street. Police have inflated a large safety cushion on the street below. #FOX5DC,” stated Lokay.

Another 7NewsDC reporter, Christian Flores, highlighted that the man had also spent some of his time on the lamb making use of the rooftops.

“We’re at the scene where a man is running across roofs of homes on Jefferson and 13th in NW D.C.,” he expressed. “Just moments ago he was walking across power lines.”
