The Investigation Into The Death By Drowning Of Three Young Children At A New York Beach Leads Investigators To The Mother

Early in the morning this past Monday, one mentally disturbed woman was in custody in the wake of her three young children drowning while at a beach on New York City’s famous Coney Island.

The stilly currently unidentified 30-year-old mother was being questioned by police officials but had not then been charged with anything in regard to the incident. Her kids — which included a 7-year-old boy, a 4-year-old girl, and a 3-month-old boy — all died by drowning in the extremely early hours of the morning on Monday.

Police officials were attempting to determine if these particular drownings were intentional, as reported by the New York Post.

Police forces responded to a call at the boardwalk at Brighton Beach at roughly 3 a.m. in the wake of one relative calling emergency services in order to report that a woman may have drowned her children, explained authorities.

“The caller indicated she was concerned that her family member may have harmed her three small children,” explained Kenneth Corey, the NYPD Chief of Department.

Once police officials were able to go to the woman’s nearby apartment building, a man there that has since been identified as the father of one of the kids stated to them that he was quite worried, as well.

The mother of these children was found barefoot and wet while wandering along the boardwalk shouting loudly about her missing children, as reported by the local 1010 WINS radio station. She then sent the police off to a location some two miles away at which they were able to discover the remains of the children.

The unresponsive kids were all pronounced dead at the closeby Coney Island Hospital. The Post also put out a series of photos showing the groups of first responders carrying the lifeless kids away from the area in their arms.

The mother of the kids was labeled as “despondent,” and was immediately taken over in for further investigation at the 60th Precinct. no charges were filed immediately in relation to the incident.

“So far, she’s not said anything,” stated Corey.

This particular case is highly reminiscent of another incident from 1994 in which Susan Smith intentionally drowned both of her kids, three-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alexander, in a South Carolina lake. Smith is still currently serving a life sentence for the murders, but it going to be eligible for parole in next few years.
